2020 Yushan Scholar Program Networking Event
In 2018, the Ministry of Education officially initiated the Yushan Scholar Program, in which it upgraded salary packages, provided abundant research resources, and recruited talented academic researchers from abroad to expand Taiwan’s international influence and teaching and research capacity. In coordination with the Ministry of Education, the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan cohosted the networking event at the Palais de Chine Hotel on November 26, 2020.
James L.C. Liang, Deputy Director General of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, delivered an opening speech (on behalf of the Ministry of Education) to thank Yushan scholars around the globe for their outstanding contributions to improving Taiwan’s higher education. Additionally, the Yushan scholars were asked to provide suggestions concerning the promotion of future programs.
The goal of the networking event was to expand and enrich academic and interpersonal networks, provide Yushan scholars with diversified collaboration opportunities, and consolidate Taiwan’s higher education-related research energy. On the cultural level, this networking event bonds Yushan scholars worldwide and also invites elite scholars around the world to engage in academic cooperation with Taiwan. Der-Tsai Lee, president of the Higher Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan, expressed anticipation for these exchange and networking events to facilitate the establishment of academic communities and restore confidence of Yushan scholarsin Taiwan’s higher education-related research energy. The networking event was lively and successful, where scholars exchanged business cards as well as academic knowledge, signaling the potential for Taiwan to elevate its higher education-related research.
